East Clarendon Band

SOLO AND ENSEMBLE FESTIVAL

WHO:  Any student in the EC band

WHAT:  Solo and Ensemble Festival

WHERE:  Fort Dorchester High School (Charleston, SC)

WHEN:  May 2, 2009

WHY:  Because it’s fun and you might even learn something!

COST: $6 if you want to play a solo. $3 per person for duets, trios or quartets. You may do two songs if you wish, but they have to be different size groups or with different people if the group is the same size.

HOW:

Sign up by bringing your money (cash is great, checks should be made out to “East Clarendon Middle School” or “East Clarendon High School”) and the signed permission form below back to Mr. Jones before March 6.

You will prepare music that Mr. Jones will select for you for a solo or ensemble.

On May 1 we will go to Fort Dorchester High School (we will ride together on the mini-bus) and you will perform for a judge. The judge will give you a rating of “I” (Superior), “II” (Excellent), or “III” (good).  The judge will give you comments and tell you what you do well and what you should work on along with your rating

Students receiving a “I” (Superior rating) will also earn a band medal that you can wear at concerts and on your uniform.

No one will be in the room when you perform but you, a piano player if you are doing a solo (Mr. Jones will get this person for you), and the judge.

SOME AFTER SCHOOL PRACTICES WILL BE REQUIRED !!!!

ELIGIBILITY:  Students must pass off their music for Mr. Jones before they will be allowed to attend the festival.  Students who are not able to prepare the music and play it properly will not be allowed to attend and the registration fee can not be returned.
